Matsuya Shinjuku 🍛

📍 1 Chome-6-3 Kabukichō, Tokyo, Japan

Breakfast was another random drop-in(s) nearby in the area.

This place was our first time using the machines to order! Looking so dumb because we went to sit down first… and we sat there for like 5 minutes before a customer came in to use the ordering machines near the entrance. We completely overlooked the machines upon entering… tourist life.

I got the Breakfast Set for like 400¥‎ or 500¥‎, which came with this whole lot!
Rice, miso soup, seaweed, an egg and sausage, along with tons of salad, green onions and other veggies… You have the option to choose a mini-side dish which consisted of: cold tofu, natto, beef and some other options.

I chose natto because it was one of the things I wanted to try in Japan! It was on my list 🙂

I heard people talking about it on the Internet and really want to experience it for myself. Apparently, natto was one of those things that you either love it or hate it.

The natto came in a separate packing with the sauces, and I just opened and put it in accordingly. With the sauce on top, you’re supposed to mix it really well and then you’re good to eat it!

Upon opening the packaging, the smell of natto was really pungent and didn’t smell that appealing at all. But being a trooper, I decided not to judge natto until I tasted it. But alas, natto is just not for me. Although I do really recommend everyone to try natto at least once when they visit Japan! Be careful as it is very stringy.. almost like cheese.

This is one of the mini-side options you can get, a bowl of beef which is a safe choice 🙂

++++

We came here on another day as well and I decided to try something else.

I opted for the plain curry dish since I wasn’t feeling any meat that morning. This was just 300¥‎ for breakfast! There was a hamburger curry for like 500¥‎, so the meat would be like a hamburger patty type of meat.

The plain curry came with some sort of mushrooms which tasted great for flavour. The Japanese curry tasted spicy yet sweet. I know that Japanese curry was sweeter than Indian curry but never tried it before till now and it was goooood.

Spicy enough to taste a kick, but also sweet that doesn’t make your tongue sweat up.
& They provided miso soup again as well~

This place seemed like a fast food joint as it was very convenient to just order it from the machine, grab a seat and for the food to arrive infront of you promptly.

The wait isn’t too long for the food to come to the table and the machine had an English option as well – which is awesome 🙂

Till next time, ♥
